Co-Producing the Culture Campus

Co-Producing the Culture Campus

1. November 2024 Off By Raul Gschrey

5-16 November 2024, Studierendenhaus Bockenheim/oHA!, Mertonstraße 26,: Together we will now look back and look ahead: What perspectives have opened up? What’s next for the living lab Culture Campus?

‘Vision31. Shaping the Culture Campus together’ was intended to provide impetus for the city of tomorrow as part of one of Frankfurt’s largest development projects. To this end, current and future users and residents of Frankfurt’s “Kulturcampus” were invited to define the spirit of the neighbourhood together, participate in its transformation and actively shape the public space. Students from Frankfurt UAS worked on site (departments of Architecture, Gomatics, Civil Engineering and Social Work and Health, and as part of our U!REKA European University alliance).

As an association of culture, public administration, science and committed citizens, Vision 31 tried out this model project for new forms of co-creative collaboration. This was the first time that a project was placed in Hesse as part of the EU’s New European Bauhaus programme, which promotes innovative model projects for the sustainable design of our living environment.

After almost a year of intensive dialogue, exciting workshops and lively cultural events, we have jointly developed a clearer picture of what the Culture Campus could be – and what it already is today. Together, we are now looking back and looking forward: What has worked and where are there still problems? What new perspectives have opened up? And how can a real laboratory for the city of tomorrow be created in the transitional period until the final realisation of the Culture Campus and in view of the tens of thousands of square metres of vacant space, which will experimentally shape urban change?

On Friday, 15 November, the experiences and ideas gathered will be evaluated in workshops. This will be followed by various inputs exploring how the coming years could be productively framed. Finally, in the evening, a prominent panel with a large number of stakeholders will discuss the question of how the Kulturcampus can be jointly organised – so that new life can be breathed into its somewhat outdated promise.

On Saturday, 16 November, we invite you to spend the day and night on the Kulturcampus. With concerts, dance performances, DJs, fire shows, projections, cool and hot drinks!
